Whilst our Christmas madness is only just beginning, for luxury candle makers Owen Drew, they’ve had it since July.

For founder Drew Cockton, Christmas has been on his mind since the summer:

“The expression in the industry is ‘Christmas in July’, meaning, we need to have our products ready in July, to pitch to editors and clients”

Situated in Wirral, Owen Drew creates luxury hand-crafted candles, bath and body products and fragrances which are all manufactured in England.

When planning ideas for their Christmas candle, Drew made it clear that he did not want to create a Christmas candle which is very cliché; containing hints of pine, cinnamon or vanilla.

“I don’t like any of those scents,” Drew said.

“We designed a candle last year, which we have brought back this year called ‘Eighteen Forty-Three’, which was the year that Charles Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol.

”We have actually had endorsement from Charles Dickens’ great-grandson, Gerald Dickens; the candle sold out at his previous event at St. George’s Hall.

“That is the jewel in the crown of our Christmas collection”

Owen Drew wanted to create a pre-Victorian era Christmas scent.

Costing £30, Eighteen Forty-Three has notes of roasted chestnuts, rum and spices which were popular during that time.

Each candle is hand-poured and made out of pure Soya wax- reducing the chances of the candle caught fire due to fewer impurities in the wax, unlike other candle brands which are mass-produced made from paraffin wax.

“The government announced a clean-air strategy earlier this year which said that these type of [parrafin] candles are going to be outlawed because it gives off the black smoke and soot which deposits on walls,” Drew explained.

Future plans for the company are currently being finalised, but they’re exciting.

We can exclusively reveal that Owen Drew is planning on releasing a premium collection retailing at £300 per candle in association with British fashion designer Ryan James.

After the success of this years perfume launch, Owen Drew is currently in the process of designing a luxurious scent which will come in an engraved crystal bottle; costing in excess of £250 with planned retail to high-end department stores.
